THEME

So after many weeks of having read ‘Lolita’ I finally decided to watch the movie version, the actors who played in it played beautifully and although I usually prefer books to movies even I couldn’t deny that the movie was great. The actors who played  in the movie made the characters and the quotes from the book so much more vivid by the way they said them and the facial expressions they had while saying them, the characters were depicted exactly as i expected them to be and the deepest quotes from the book such as the ‘I still dwelled deep in my elected paradise, paradise whose skies were the color of hell-flames but a paradise still' quote which I find absolutely amazing was kept in the movie. Overall, after having read the book and seeing the movie I can confirm that the movie was better and it'll forever be one of my favorite movies, the way Lolita uses sex to control Humbert while he uses sex to fulfill his dark lustful desires shows the effect of lust on the human soul in such a way that you can't help but realize the dark negative effect it has, we've banalized sex so much I think, that we forget that we can all become slaves to our envies and desires if not controlled and by becoming slaves to them we degrade ourselves to becoming just animals who act on impulses and don't suppress them. The theme was dark, disturbing, thought provoking and poetic while targeting in my opinion every aspect of sex, the lustful side that i mentioned earlier, the loving side, the manipulative side even rape. Honestly there's nothing better than watching though provoking, moral challenging movies before going to bed late at night.
